Three Intimate Destination Weddings in Morocco, for three types of couples

Every couple envisions their intimate destination wedding in Morocco a different way, and that’s what makes destination weddings here so special to photograph. As a Morocco wedding photographer, I see couples drawn to everything from the soft, golden light of the desert to the stillness of the Atlas Mountains. Each setting shapes a completely different wedding aesthetic, whether it’s classically elegant, modern or adventurous. The beauty of a destination wedding in Morocco is that it is the most beautiful canvas for every type of couple. When I talk about “types of couples”, I’m not putting people into boxes, I know we're all waaay more complex than that. I’m describing the different ways couples naturally approach and envision their wedding from my destination wedding experience. The feeling, rhythm, and aesthetic that they want their destination wedding to hold.

I absolutely adore working on Destination Weddings, especially in Morocco. I first fell in love with Morocco when I visited back in 2022. I know it's not for everyone, but I adored the beautiful chaos of the Medina, as much as I did the dunes of the Agafay Desert. The soul of Morocco is so special and vibrant, it's not the first place that comes to mind when couples imagine their destination wedding location, that's why I love it. Let me share some of my favourite Morocco destination wedding inspiration that I've photographed.

A Kasbah Bab Ourika Wedding, for the Luxury x Elegant Couple

Nestled in the Atlas Mountains, around a 45 minute drive from Marrakech you'll find this dreamy Moroccan Wedding Venue, Kasbah Bab Ourika. A gorgeous hotel perched on a hilltop overlooking the Ourika Valley, the hotel has incredible 360 panoramic views from it's many terraces. To me, this venue screamed quiet luxury (ironic way for me to phrase this sentence) and Moroccan style elegance with it's gorgeous design, colours and experience. When I talk about 'luxury' in weddings, it's probably not what you think. I'm not talking about high budget weddings, to me as a wedding photographer, a luxury wedding is one that evolves around experience-centred decision making thats been intentionally considered with a team of suppliers that excel at what they do. In luxury weddings, the venue actively shapes the experience. At the Kasbah, immediately your wedding has become a luxury experience. Imagine your intimate ceremony overlooking the valley, followed by a traditional dinner underneath draped fabrics to help keep you and your guests cool in the Moroccan heat, then the following day, unwind with a traditional hammam in the hotel spa, look through your wedding preview gallery in your hotel room that's authentically styled with Moroccan-Berber antiques and enjoy a sunset drink within the peaceful olive groves whilst overlooking the mountains.

An Agafay Desert Elopement, for the Non-Traditional x Adventure-Loving-Couple

A similar distance from Marrackech, you'll find the beautiful Agafay Desert. A quiet golden escape from the chaos of the Medina in Marrakech, where the only noise you'll hear is the occasional bellow of one of their resident camels. Consider eloping at the Agafay Luxury Camp if you feel connected to the idea of having a non traditional wedding, you both love to travel, and you want to celebrate your love story in a different way. The months of October and November work really well for elopements in Morocco, and I'd recommend starting close to golden hour to really bring out the golden tones of the rolling dunes. The sun is a lot softer in the evening, which is so flattering for photos but also a much more comfortable experience to shoot under the otherwise hot Moroccan sun. There are different elopement locations across the Agafay, but I can whole heartedly recommend the Agafay Luxury Camp, I personally stayed here afterwards in one of the camps luxury bell tents and it was so incredible waking up in desert in the morning, taking a swim in the pool and looking back through these photos.

A White Studio Wedding, for the Modern x Editorial Couple

For our modern couple, the clean lines and aesthetic of the White Studio in Marrakech are a perfect fit. It's an ultra modern and cool intimate space built on the outskirts of the city, a truly unique venue within the area. Perfect for intimate destination wedding for couples who adore a minimalistic and refined wedding day whilst still being close to the bubbling heart of the Marrakech Medina. I also recommend Nomad Eats Catering if you are considering a wedding at the venue or anywhere within Morocco for that matter, because Driss' teams food is some of the best I've ever tasted.
